While attempting to arrest a suspect who had stabbed two men at the Fairfield railroad station, Deputy Pike collapsed of a heart attack, and never regained consciousness.

On May 13, 1894, a man stabbed two men—one seriously—at the Fairfield railroad station. Deputy Pike went to the suspect’s home to arrest him, and a struggle ensued. Pike got one handcuff on the suspect and collapsed. He died at the scene without regaining consciousness, victim of a heart attack. He was 38 years old.
