The mission of the Connecticut Police Chiefs’ Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation is to honor all of the brave men and women of the Connecticut law enforcement community that have lost their lives while serving their in respective law enforcement agencies. While checking his beat, Officer Cannon found an open door at the Hubinger Building on Chapel Street. He went into the darkened building to have the janitor secure it and while doing so, he fell into an open elevator shaft. He died from his injuries one month later.

Officer Cummins was a member of the Night Watch that existed from 1640 - 1861, when it was replaced by the New Haven Police Department. He was beaten while attempting to break up a fight and thereby became the first New Haven Police Officer to die in the line of duty.

Officer Fumiatti was shot while temporarily assigned to the Investigative Services/Street Interdiction. He was able to testify in both state and federal trials, leading to the conviction of his shooter, and to return to work, but succumbed to his injuries.

On September 9, 2008, at 11:23 pm, Officer Diane Gonzalez responded to a reported active violent assault of a female. Tragically while responding she was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a fellow officer who was also responding to the same incident. As a result of the incident, Officer Gonzalez suffered a traumatic brain injury and slipped into a coma. After 13 years and 8 months, Officer Gonzalez succumbed to her injury on January 10, 2022.

Patrolman Hooper, the first black patrolman who was 31 years old and a four- year veteran. Patrolman Hooper was sent to the area of Manfield and Sachem St on the report of two burglars in the area. Patrolman Hooper gave pursuit of one suspect into the Canal Railroad Line where Patrolman Hooper fell down a decent onto the tracks. Patrolman Hooper severely injured his knee which ultimately caused his death.

Detective Palma was among four officers who entered the Paramount Theater to confront two suspects wanted for a tie-up robbery. A shootout ensued, and Detective Palma was struck twice in the abdomen. He died of his injuries 32 days later.

Officer Shea stopped to assist a motorist who had broken down. As both worked on the car, another car came speeding down the street and struck the disabled car. Officer Shea was knocked under the car and later died from his injuries.

Pursuing a stolen car that was wanted in regards to stolen athletic tickets, Detective Sullivan jumped on the vehicle's left running board and fought with the driver. The car rolled over, pinning Detective Sullivan underneath, and he died shortly thereafter.

Officer Wendland responded to a report of a robbery by two men at a cemetery. A suspect who had not been fully frisked was put into Officer Wendland's car by another officer. As they drove off, the suspect fatally shot him five times.
